grim-grinning ghosts...
so halloween is over. i had a great time hanging out with just a few friends downtown--people watching was the most fun, of course, as the usual store-bought slutty outfits were punctuated by truly hilarious get-ups. the most played out new costume? JT's d*ck-in-a-box duo.
anyhow, we hung out at a mostly deserted bar a little off the main drags. it had drink specials (thank god!) and good music (oh ipod, you have truly changed the world). i was the only one in costume--i wasn't exactly a character, but more of an amalgam of all the romance novel heroines i've had swimming in my head since i was fifteen. add a dash of renaissance wench, hike up the skirt, and, voila, you have cute wittle me.
thanks to julio for driving because i could barely keep my eyes open on the way home--i was a bad co-pilot. must have been the rush of oxygen into my lungs when i finally loosened the laces on that corset. (how on EARTH did women live in those daily?)
anyhow, candy time is over, and i suppose we've only to look forward to turkey time now. ah, but for those of us with catholicism in our childhoods, thoughts of "the other world" are still with us for a couple more days. today is all saints day, tomorrow all souls day, and therefore it's also time for "dia de los muertos." the latter is a day i never celebrated as a kid, by the way. it's just not something that made the cross over the border in el paso, and growing up in catholic school the days of observation were what came first.
there's plenty out in the media about all three days, so i'll not cover them here. BUT, here's a little clip that has always cracked me up and comes to mind whenever i think of "flores para los muertos..." it's not THE clip, but it's the one that sets up that line.
